oh saturday.
sweet football saturday.
it was an oliver & mama saturday.
daddy went to get in touch with nature...
camping somewhere up in the flatiron mountains today.
so if daddy is gonna leave us on iowa vs. iowa state game day...
you better believe we are piling on the black & gold!
although...without michael, cyclone fan, here...it just wasn't as fun to cheer!
i remember last year, the game was in ames, and i was pregnant.
but the year before that, it was back in iowa city.
michael & i had just started seeing each other & we were there together.
it was a muddy rainy mess of a day.
we took this photo =)


i also spent the day baking. a first in leyna history i think.
i dedicated the day to playing with oliver the hawks & baked goods.
the olly bake shop opened up late morning & stayed open all day long =)
i wanted to share some of our lazy happy saturday...& recipes.

welcome to olly's bake shop.
first, you need to get out all your ingredients & baking pans...


vanilla.orange granola.
three cups rolled oats.
1/4 cup wheat germ.
1/4 cup flaxseed meal.
1/2 cup nuts (i use sliced almonds).
1/2 cup honey.
1/2 tsp orange peel.
1/3 cup orange juice.
1/2 tsp vanilla.
1 tsp cinnamon.

preheat oven 325.
combine honey, oj, vanilla & cinnamon in a small saucepan.
heat until honey melts, over med-high heat.

combine oats, wheat germ, flaxseed meal & nuts in a bowl.

pour honey mix over oat mix & coat well.
bake in oven one hour.
stirring every 15 mins.

pumpkin muffins.
(from kate ford but this is my version)
one can pumpkin or pumpkin pie mix.
one box french vanilla cake mix.
handful of chocolate chips.

combine above ingredients only.
lightly spray muffin tins or use muffin liners.
fill each tin 3/4 full.
bake at 350 for 18-20 minutes.
i suggest you make these right now!

oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
one cup crisco + 2 tbsp h2o or one cup butter, softened.
one cup packed light brown sugar.
1/2 cup white sugar.
two eggs.
two tsp vanilla extract.
1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour.
1/2 tsp baking soda.
three cups rolled oats.
one cup chocolate chips.
two tbsp whole ground flaxseed meal.

preheat oven 325.
in large bowl, cream crisco(+h2o) or butter, brown sugar & white sugar until smooth.
beat in one egg at a time.
stir in vanilla.
combine flour & baking soda & stir into creamed mix until just blended.
mix in oats, flaxseed meal & chocolate chips.
drop heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
bake 10-12 minutes.

and we'll probably end the day with a blanket fort in the living room.
watching movies all night.
and for me, a glass of wine.
